Colored Marking on Toothpaste – What Does It Mean?

Myth

It is believed that if a toothpaste tube has a black stripe, it means the product is made up of 100% chemicals. This toothpaste should never be used by children, and adults should only use it for whitening, and even then, rarely.
A blue marking on the toothpaste tube supposedly indicates that the paste contains about 80% synthetic and abrasive ingredients. While this may be somewhat better, regular use could still cause gum disease and other oral health issues.
If the toothpaste contains 50% chemicals, it will have a red stripe, which means it is not recommended for people with bleeding gums and sensitive enamel.
The ideal choice is a paste with a green marking, which supposedly has a natural composition and is recommended by dentists.

Reality

In fact, these colored marks are called “eye marks” or registration marks. They are used by automatic sensors during production to properly cut and seal the tubes.

The color of the mark has no connection to the toothpaste’s composition. The color can vary (black, blue, red, green) and is solely determined by the production line’s requirements.
